Hope L. Mason, MPA
Hope L. Mason, MPA is a Healthcare Leader, Advocate, Hospital Network Trustee, Board Member of a CBO and Mentor to healthcare executives. She served four decades in the health care voluntary and public sectors in executive management, strategic planning, capital planning, health care finance, intergovernmental affairs and community relations positions.
Ms. Mason served as an integral member of the Kings County Hospital Center executive team, leading one of the nation’s largest municipal hospital centers prior to her retirement. Her passion for serving communities of color and advocating for increasing access to quality health care led to her appointment in 2017 as a Trustee of One Brooklyn Health System, Inc. Joining a newly formed corporation and network of voluntary hospitals, nursing homes and affiliated ambulatory care facilities in Central Brooklyn charged with implementing a Transformation Plan supported by Governor Cuomo and his Vital Brooklyn Program with a $664 million capital grant. Ms. Mason is currently serving on the Nominating, Compensation, Finance and Audit and Strategic Planning Committees.
Since 1987, Ms. Mason has been an officer and member of the Board of Directors of Ryan Health Network, a Federally Qualified Health Center. Ms. Mason serves on the Executive Search, Strategic Planning, Membership and Corporate Compliance Committees. She serves on the Board of the Ryan Health/Chelsea Center. Ms. Mason is the Chair of the Quality Committee of Ryan Health and a member of the Quality Committee of Ryan/Chelsea Clinton.
Ms. Mason is a longstanding member of the NY Regional Chapter of the National Association of Health Services Executive. Over the course of four decades, NAHSE has been instrumental in her career and she has had an opportunity to give back to NAHSE who has shared in her professional successes. Notably, she obtained her first role in healthcare through a paid summer internship at New York University Hospital. Her internship was created by Mr. Everett Fox, VP and Administrator of NYU Hospital, founder and NAHSE’s first President. In 1987, Mr. Haynes Rice, Executive Director of Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC and a founding member of NAHSE awarded Ms. Mason one of her first consulting contracts for Strategic Planning services. In 2015, Ms. Mason was inducted as President of the NYR Chapter of NAHSE by Mr. Percy Allen, former National NAHSE president, along with other officers at the historical Harlem Hospital.
During her presidency, there were several accomplishments. She led the redesign and revival of NAHSE-NYR Chapter and doubled its membership. Hope initiated the Strategic Planning process and established a Presidential Advisory Committee including Past NAHSE Presidents, Educators and Hospital executives. Under Ms. Mason’s leadership academic scholarships were awarded to 3 graduate students. The Chapter financially supported 3 Columbia University graduate students participating in the Case Competition at the NAHSE’s Annual Education Conference in San Antonio, Texas. Hope has served as a judge for National’s Annual Education Conference case competition program and NAHSE Annual Conference - Women’s Forum Committee member.
Recipient of NYR NAHSE 2007 Women of Distinction Award and 2019 Senior Healthcare Executive Award, Hope has been a member of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Manhattan Chapter for over 20 years. Member of the Healthcare Executive Club; Fellow, National Association of Corporate Directors; Member, Abyssinian Baptist Church in the City of New York, Member, Golden Life Ministry. She received her Master of Public Administration from New York University, Graduate School of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, minor in Education from Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus. Ms. Mason has two sons and enjoys living in Harlem.
